March 26-27th, 2026
On March 26-27th, 2026, The Planning Group is pleased to be contributing to the Certificate of Director Effectiveness offered by Governance Professionals of Canada (GPC). This a national program designed to strengthen the effectiveness, confidence, and impact of board directors across sectors.
As part of the certification, The Planning Group’s partners will lead two sessions focused on core areas of modern board responsibility:
The Board's Role in Strategy
Peter Wright will lead a session on The Board’s Role in Strategy, helping directors move beyond passive oversight to actively shape strategy alongside senior leadership and oversee execution. The session focuses on the board’s two critical roles in strategy: developing strategy in conjunction with senior leaders and overseeing its execution. Peter will provide practical guidance to help directors avoid acting as a rubber stamp to management, particularly in increasingly dynamic and complex operating environments.
The Board's Role in AI & Data
Cheyenne Russell will lead The Board’s Role in AI & Data, equipping directors to provide confident oversight of artificial intelligence and data in the boardroom. The session focuses on how boards can balance strategic value with risk, ethics, privacy, and accountability. Cheyenne will set out a practical approach to help directors ask the right questions and set clear expectations as technology becomes more deeply embedded in organizational decision-making.
Together, these sessions reflect the evolving realities of governance. Strategy, technology, and data are no longer separate conversations. Boards are expected to engage meaningfully in all three, with clarity around their role and accountability for outcomes.
The Planning Group brings deep experience working with boards, executives, and governance professionals across the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. Our work focuses on helping boards strengthen oversight, improve strategic decision-making, and navigate complexity with confidence.
